Who's Afraid of Wilhelm Reich?
"This is a subtitled version of the documentary film "Wer hat Angst vor Wilhelm Reich" by Antonin Svoboda in coproduction with Austrian TV. Such a version was overdue because according to the old wisdom, that the prophet counts for nothing in the own country, there seems to be a much greater interest in his work internationally than in Germany or Austria, where Wilhelm Reich, if known at all, today is mostly seen as a ridiculous figure. Reich's concept of sexual freedom today is still far from being fulfilled. Pornography is not sexual freedom but only a substitute. The concept of orgone energy in my opinion is metaphysical and therefore not provable, but an unideological look at Reich's natural philosophy shows him as an important forerunner of the paradigm of autopoiesis."
You don't have to be a fan of Reich's thinking to appreciate orgonia, but after interacting with the mysterious energy firsthand I began to look at Reich with more insight and interest. The federal crackdown on Reich's work which even included public book burnings speaks volumes about the impact of his ideas. In Reich's day there were thousands of government accused "quacks," but none of them was so viciously singled out and persecuted. Knowing what I do now about the reality of orgone energy I suspect the government "doth protest too much" and felt threatened by Reich's worldview.
